Recovery and Candy Canes

Today, I celebrate going home

For four long days I wondered

I agonized over the loneliness

Now, I am free of an organ that failed

An organ that brought me only pain

Free from its clutches, I am

Oh, the joy of eating painlessly

I go home and am greeted with love

My children rejoice to see me

My husband is glad to have me near

Candy canes litter my kitchen

As a reward, I unwrap the treat

And taste the sweetness of delight
