April Showers Bring May Flowers

Or something like that…

I’m starting a new blogging schedule because I can’t seem to catch up with what I’m doing with my life. I started this blog and felt successful for the first couple of months. Then, with my pending graduation, I simply fell short. I’m not hurt about it, I’m just being realistic. I have kept my weekly author interviews and have started to incorporate the book reviews as well. I’m slow on getting them matched up, but I’ll soon be able to do that too. Instead of having unrealistic expectations for my blog, I decided to start a monthly blog and play it by ear when I can post more than that.

I’ve also decided instead of throwing out information like lists and suggestions, I’m going to attempt to be more personal and intentional with my blogging. It’s much easier for me to sit down and tell you what I’m thinking and doing. I’d rather do that then go and research information and feed it to you like some bloggers do. So, here’s my April blog.

What have I been Doing?

Well, aside from finishing up my bachelor’s degree, I’ve had a ton of new things happen to me this year. First, I started this website and feel good about the progression of it. I update as often as I can and I feel great creatively expressing myself. I’ve been writing two fanfictions that I update regularly. I have been reading books for my author interviews and book reviews. I’ve written a Fantasy YA novel that I’m proud of. I’ve plotted and planned for a few other books I’m preparing to write. Lastly, I submitted a manuscript to some beta readers and am awaiting feedback.

What are my plans for the month?

First, I’ll start by saying that I’m one month away from finishing my degree. I graduate next month and I can’t be more excited. Second, while I’m going to school, I’ve been working with the Las Cruces Public Schools Head Start program. I’m nearly at the end of my year-long practicum. I have training, events, and tasks that I’ll be doing all month long. On April 26 and 27, I’ll be attending a two-day training on Trust-Based Interventions. I’m looking forward to that event. The program is in the recruitment process and I’ll be assisting them on several days to help register those kiddos who want to get into preschool. a lot of fun and exciting things are happening in terms of my school.

I’ll be graduating next month, job seeking, and moving to a new location. So, there is a lot of planning to do. I have applications to fill out, and deposits to pay for moving. There are things that need to be taken care of here in Las Cruces before I journey into another city and drag my kids along with me.

In terms of writing, I’m editing, writing, and finishing up some of my projects. I’m trying not to commit myself to anything long-term with everything that is going on. So, I’m enjoying myself.

What have I learned?

This year has taught me so much about myself that I can’t help but be grateful. I’ve met some amazing people, grown as a writer, and solidified myself as a professional social worker. I’m excited to learn more and to see where this journey of life takes me next.

I’ve learned to put my work out there and not feel so scared of rejection. I’ve had rejection and I’ve felt more motivated than ever to get better and keep working hard.
